DESCRIPTION:CHRISTMAS IN ICE - POLITICIANS WITH POWER TOOLS - Sat. Dec. 5\, noon to 4pm.  Mayor Ward of North Pole has challenged the mayors of Fairbanks and the Borough to an ice-carve-off.  The mayors will be carving a sculpture that will go on display for judging over the following week with donations being accepted as votes for each carving.  The winner will be announced on Saturday Dec. 12 at 6pm.  The mayor with the winning sculpture will donate all funds to a nonprofit of his choice.  \n\n \nOVERALL EVENT NOTICE:\n\nCHRISTMAS IN ICE - Christmas themed ice park and Elf's Icy playground.\nChristmas in Ice is an annual event that lights up the Christmas season in North Pole\, Alaska. This Ice Park features a Christmas-themed ice art competition during the month of December with sculptures by local and international carvers. There is a youth ice carving competition in addition to single block and multi-block competitions. Special events include a BP Picnic Under the Stars and Military Appreciation Day sponsored by Petro Star Refinery. See Santa on Christmas day\, and on New Year's enjoy hot cocoa and fireworks at our special family friendly event.  Our new skating rink is surrounded by castle walls built with the help of the 70th Brigade Engineer Battalion from Fort Wainwright.\n\nFor big and little kids\, there is the Elf's Icy playground with 100 foot ice slides\, mazes\, and twirlers. Indoors there are craft activities and special performers.
